Resilience Certification

In order to protect guests and airport staff, ensure rapid restoration of airport functionality, and secure functionality to serve as a base for disaster management, the Kansai Airport Group has established the Earthquake and Tsunami Business Continuity Plan (BCP).

This page features information on evacuating in the event of an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 6-lower or greater on the Japanese seismic intensity scale, at Osaka International Airport (Itami).

1. Basic Principles

  • In the event of an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 6-lower or greater at Osaka International Airport, guests will be guided to an outdoor evacuation site. The building will be checked to confirm safety, and guests will be guided back inside to a space deemed safe.
  • Immediately after such an earthquake, the airport will give evacuation instructions, and will make an emergency announcement (evacuation announcement) over the loudspeakers. In addition, evacuation guidance will be provided primarily by security staff.

2. Emergency Announcements

Announcements like “Earthquake. Earthquake. Please leave the building immediately.” will be made in Japanese and English, and will repeat.

3. In the Event of an Earthquake Early Warning…

  • Do what you can to ensure your safety, and wait for the shaking to stop.
  • Get away from windows and other glass, and move toward pillars or walls.
  • If you are in an elevator, do not panic. Wait for maintenance staff to come rescue you.
  • Follow the guidance of the security staff, and try to remain calm.
